David Meya, MBChB, MMed, PhD, has been appointed as an O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair, a prestigious honor meant to advance research and student mentorship.
The appointment will provide Meya and Makerere University with $170,000 annually for the next five years that will fund research infrastructure and student mentoring.
Meya, an associate professor at Makerere University, is one of only 10 appointees that were selected across Africa.
Meya has played an integral role in the Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility’s work in Uganda through research collaborations, student mentorship, and hosting visiting scholars.
As a research mentor, Meya has been involved in HIV, infectious diseases, and immunology training programs for graduate students from both Makerere and the University of Minnesota.
