Dr. Melissa Geller, a gynecological oncologist at the University of Minnesota Medical School, is completing a Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Galway to develop novel ovarian cancer treatments. With her roles as Division Director for Gynecological Oncology and Associate Director for Clinical Research at the Masonic Cancer Center, Dr. Geller has dedicated her career to ovarian cancer research, a commitment that extends into her recent endeavors abroad.

The Fulbright opportunity arose through a collaboration with a previous Fulbright scholar from Galway who worked in Dr. Geller’s lab at the U of M. This partnership led to the development of an innovative intraperitoneal catheter device for delivering immune-based therapies using research models. Dr. Geller's project in Galway aims to scale this device for clinical trials, potentially transforming ovarian cancer treatment.

Professionally, Dr. Geller aims to foster enduring collaborations between the U of M and the University of Galway, particularly in the realms of biomedical engineering and clinical trials. Her Fulbright tenure is not only about advancing her research but also immersing herself in the academic and cultural tapestry of Galway. She is enthusiastic about the potential for joint research initiatives.
