Every July, a group of early-career researchers meet in Washington, D.C., to mark the beginning of a prestigious, one-year global health fellowship replete with opportunities to hone their research skills and create lasting connections with researchers from around the world.
The Fogarty Global Health Fellowship kicks off near the NIH campus, where current-year fellows gather with Fogarty International Center leaders, program partners, and fellowship alumni who return to share their experiences and advice for the new cohort.
The opening event, held this year from July 11–17, combines research training and professional development with opportunities for fellows to learn from global health leaders and build relationships with one another before embarking on their 12-month research journey.
This year, five UMN-affiliated fellows will carry that training into research projects in Uganda, Peru, and Thailand, tackling questions across infectious disease, environmental health and high-altitude medicine.
