Center for Global Health and Social Responsibility
Uganda Hub: Anchored by a strong collaboration between the University of Minnesota and Makerere University that has been growing since 2005, the Uganda Hub was established in 2015 to lay the foundation for sustainable engagement. Major partners in this collaboration are Makerere University, Infectious Diseases Institute, Mulago Hospital, and University of Minnesota. Additional collaboration exists with Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Center for Animal Health and Food Safety
ProgRESSVet - East Africa: In April 2019, the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety was awarded $1.5 million over three years from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to design and implement education and training programs in Kenya and Uganda. The training programs will target the animal health and veterinary workforce in both the public and private sectors. The goal is to improve local, national, and regional practices for animal health, and promote access to international trade markets for sustained local development.
Global Surgery and Disparities Program
The University of Minnesota Global Surgery & Disparities (UMGSD) Program works to understand and improve surgical, anesthesia, and OBGYN care in underserved areas through partnerships with local providers—both within the United States and around the world. Hope Medical Clinics Uganda is an NGO based in Minnesota. The UMN Department of Surgery (Medical School) partners with Hope Medical Clinics Uganda to coordinate week-long surgical camps.
