A new heritage language project, Multilingual Minnesota, began this past summer to create a searchable video database documenting the voices, languages, and cultural narratives of Minnesota’s heritage language communities. 

The Fulbright Association selected several University of Minnesota faculty members as recipients of the 2025-26 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award

Congratulations to Professor Kathleen Collins on receiving the Fulbright Global Scholar Award (2025-2026) and the College of Liberal Arts Social Science Research Grant (2025-2027)! These awards support her research on pathways of postcommunist military reform.

The Department of History and the Institute of Global Studies have been pleased to host visiting professor Oleksandr (Alex) Komarenko from spring 2024 through spring 2025. 

Elise Kloeppner spent the summer in Geneva, Switzerland as an intern for the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The international program seeks to leverage geodesign thinking, geospatial technologies, and other research tools to help local communities around the world grow and thrive by meeting UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Samia Abdi will embark on a fully funded one-year master’s degree in global affairs at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, in Beijing, China.

Dr. Keppler-Schlesinger met with the Center for Austrian Studies, UMN Libraries archivists and curators, the University Provost, as well as leaders at cultural organizations in the Twin Cities such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art. 

History Ph.D. candidate Alex Magnolia traveled to Greece for firsthand archival research, resulting in new discoveries and conclusions.

Three students share how the Department of Theatre Arts & Dance’s BA Dublin program enhanced their on-campus coursework, helped them forge friendships, and expanded their theatrical horizons.
