The University of Minnesota recently hosted 13 faculty and international educators from seven European institutions to foster conversations on the relationship between international education and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

UMN experts and leaders presented on internationalization strategy; creating a climate for diversity, equity, and inclusion; internationalizing university curricula; and decolonizing and democratizing global health.

Participants connected with almost 20 UMN faculty and staff and also enjoyed a thought-provoking tour of the ReVisión: Art in the Americas exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, arranged by UMN’s Diversity Community of Practice.

The symposium was organized by Barbara Kappler, assistant dean of International Student and Scholar Services, and Christopher Johnstone, associate professor and director of graduate studies in the department of Organizational Leadership and Policy Development.

"Three days in person provided a fantastic opportunity for dialogue about the power of professional learning communities initiated at each institution and how these are a source of belonging for instructors, faculty, and staff," Kappler said.
