An OLPD alum helps Ukrainian refugees navigate new surroundings.

Jo Anne Van Tilburg (B.A. ’65) is director and principal investigator of the Easter Island Statues Project, which studies the stone guardians called moai by the island’s inhabitants.

Gülgün Kayim works as the founding director of arts, culture, and the creative economy for the city of Minneapolis, where she develops programs to support artistic entrepreneurs, creative businesses, and arts and cultural nonprofits.

Kamila Rollan, now a third-year PhD student at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, was a 2017 fellow in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Anniversary Inclusive Education Fellowship Program. 

Since leaving her position as a police officer for the Minneapolis Police Department in October 2021 due to MPD’s hostile work environment, Colleen Ryan has served as a Monitoring Officer for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s (OSCE) Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.

The Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine dedicates itself to these issues. CAHFS graduates go on to collaborate with partners across the globe to ensure food safety and sustainability, as well as economic stability. 

As co-owners of VEEMAH Integrated Wellness and Consulting Services, Edwin Swaray (B.A. ’06) and Vivian Ballah-Swaray (B.A. ’05) are helping an underserved community seek mental health treatment.

Dorota Serafin is leading the team at Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) to provide critical humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine.
