Naggita “Maya” Mayimuna is one of 24 Washington Mandela Fellows who will participate in a six-week Leadership Institute at the University of Minnesota. Maya is the founder of the nonprofit Women and Youth Platform for Action and a councilwoman for her local municipality in Uganda.

The University of Minnesota will host 24 Fellows from 15 countries in Africa for a six-week Leadership Institute, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and hosted by College of Education and Human Development in partnership with the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

In Ukraine, over 800 educational institutions have suffered bombing and shelling, and 75 have been destroyed completely. The Institute’s Renáta Tichá, co-director of the Global Resource Center for Inclusive Education, led a live and virtual event on March 30 dedicated to bringing together faculty, staff, students, and other community members to share strategies to help Ukraine following the February 24 invasion by Russian forces.
